The name Kurtz is one of the minor groups in the family chart with just 12 known persons.
As many other ancestors they origin from Germany. Poul Kurtz (?-1676) and his wife Marie Elligers
(?-1695) were married in Germany before 1655.
1655 Poul Kurtz was appointed royal gold smith by the Danish King Frederik the 5th.
He received an order from the King for new crown jewels (which are still the existing ones),
e.g. the crown of King Frederiks son, Christian.
The crown can be seen today at Rosenborg Castle in Copenhagen. It was made by Poul Kurtz before
the salvation of King Christian the 5th as an absolute monarch in the year of 1671.
It also should be mentioned that the crown was exposed to the public in the store
and workshop of Poul Kurtz in Østergade in Copenhagen for 3 days before the delivery to the King
on the 7th of June 1671.
